HSBC recruits ex-MI5 head

The UK bank has appointed Sir Jonathan Evans to help advise on potential financial crime and systems abuse at the bank

Just a day after US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts hired former CIA director David Petraeus, HSBC has announced the appointment of its own spook – a former director general of the UK’s MI5.

The bank has appointed Sir Jonathan Evans, who led the UK's domestic security service from 2007 until this year, as a non-executive director and a member of its Financial System Vulnerabilities Committee.
