HSBC is expected to tell staff today that it will downsize and quit its Canary Wharf headquarters where it has held its main UK presence for more than two decades.

The bank is planning to move to the refurbished former BT office, located in the vicinity of St Paul’s, marking a pullback on space to 556,000 square feet, which is about half the size of its current 45-floor tower at 8 Canada Square.
