HSBC has turned to a former Goldman Sachs executive to co-lead its UK investment banking business, following the announcement that Alan Thomas will retire after 40 years at the UK bank.

Rob Ritchie will join HSBC in September as co-head of global banking for the UK alongside Philip Noblet, according to a memo sent to staff today by global banking co-heads Robin Phillips and Matthew Westerman.
