ICE raises stakes in CDS clearing

Energy trading giant the IntercontinentalExchange has thrown down the gauntlet to exchange rivals, including Liffe which yesterday launched a clearing service for credit default swaps, by winning approval to expand its service to new asset classes.

Atlanta-based ICE said yesterday its London-based European clearing business ICE Clear Europe had received from the UK markets watchdog the Financial Services Authority, a special approval that means it can expand beyond its existing energy futures business.
