The IntercontinentalExchange has sent out documents opposing a rival takeover of the Chicago Board of Trade, amid criticism from the US Senate for its lack of regulation following the electronic commodities market's role in executing trades by collapsed hedge fund Amaranth.

The Senate has released a report, Excessive Speculation in the Natural Gas Market, examining how trading by Amaranth led to high prices in the US natural gas market.
