In defence of active managers

The Ron Sandler report on retail savings in the UK appears to leave no doubt: "Both investment theory and studies of historical data show that the probability of a single manager outperforming the market… is negligible."

Just like the Office of Fair Trading five years ago, Sandler has found that funds tracking the index represent the best bet for Joe Public's bottom drawer.
