Index Ventures, the European biotechnology venture capital fund has hired Kevin Johnson and Gianni Garotta as senior executives and Ennio Ongini as venture adviser.

The hires are a sign that Index, based in Geneva, wants to kick-start its investment activity. It usually recruits executives for individual projects but the three latest hires are joining on permanent contracts.
