A lot happened in 2020. The world weathered the brunt of its worst pandemic in almost a century, the markets crashed and then rallied, the US elected a new president and the UK (mostly) completed its transition out of the EU.
Fintech managed to hold on to its position as the crown jewel of the booming technology industry, particularly in the UK where the sector raked in $4.1bn in funding. Unsurprisingly London firms attracted more than 90% of the UK's total, receiving $3.8bn across 310 deals in 2020.
