Influential MP queries Barclays plan for £42bn pension scheme

Barclays' plans for its £42bn staff pension fund have come under scrutiny from Parliament's top pensions inquisitor, ahead of the ring-fencing of UK retail bank assets in a year’s time.

UK banks will next year have to split out retail operations from their riskier investment banking divisions. This ring-fencing is required under post-crisis reforms aimed at preventing the need for taxpayer bailouts of banking groups.
