Instinet hires Merrill Lynch banker

The Reuters-owned electronic brokerage service Instinet has hired John Spencer from Merrill Lynch as the new head of strategy for its global equities business.

Spencer was previously a director in equity markets at the investment bank where he was responsible for the development of the European listed markets business and alternative trading systems.
