Investment banks pile into the region

Western investment banks are setting up offices in the Gulf in increasing numbers driven by the possibility of developing advisory mandates for the estimated $1 trillion (€750bn) of financing required in the next decade and the opportunities for wealth management.

They are taking advantage regional central banks' decision to be prepared to issue banking licences. In addition, Qatar and Dubai have opened global financial centres operated and regulated to international standards.
