Investors voice opposition to US placement agent ban

Nearly three-quarters of US institutional investors oppose proposals by the SEC to ban publicly-funded bodies using third-party marketing professionals, according to research that suggests such a move would prove unpopular with the institutions it is designed to protect.

In June it emerged that the SEC was outlining a potential ban on political contributions by investment advisers as well as a ban on the use of placement agents in soliciting commitments from public pension plans in the US.
