A cohort of heavyweight investors want Standard Life Aberdeen to ditch its co-chief executive structure. This indicates a strong preference for an outsider to replace both Keith Skeoch and Martin Gilbert at the top of the FTSE 100 asset manager.

According to a poll of 21 large investors, more than two-thirds said they wanted an external candidate to take over from the two fund management veterans over the next 12 months.
