Iraq war halves private equity dealflow

The political and economic uncertainty of the past three months has taken its toll on the private equity industry with the number and value of deals down to less than half the total for final quarter of 2002.

The figures from Initiative Europe, the private equity data provider, will be a blow to the industry, which has kept relatively buoyant in the downturn and filled the void left by the mergers and acquisitions market.
