Paschal Donohoe, the Irish finance minister and president of the Eurogroup, the body brings together finance ministers across the bloc, has been fighting for a European banking union for years. Yet the push towards full integration across the bloc has repeatedly stalled.

Now, he tells Financial News why current events might just have given the project the kick it needs. The interview has been edited for clarity.
