‘It sounds like me even though it’s not me’: Deepfake scams put City firms on high alert

Several well-known City figures have had their images and voices hijacked in AI generated videos produced by online fraudsters

Michael Hewson is used to being recognised. During a 15-year career with brokerage CMC Markets, he forged a reputation as one of the City’s most respected analysts and made regular appearances on TV and radio sharing his hot take on markets.

More recently, though, Hewson has been getting noticed for the wrong reasons — his voice and image have been hijacked by fraudsters and used to promote fake investments on social media.
