‘It will curtail people’s freedom’: UK, US, Australia and Canada slam China’s Hong Kong law

In a joint statement, the UK, US, Australia and Canada called on the Chinese and Hong Kong governments to work together

UK foreign secretary Dominic Raab today joined counterparts in Australia, Canada and the US to slam China’s move to impose a controversial national security law in Hong Kong, warning it will “curtail Hong Kong people’s liberties”.

In a joint letter published on 28 May, Raab, US secretary of state Mike Pompeo, Australian foreign minister Marise Payne and Canadian foreign minister François-Philippe Champagne called on the Chinese government to work with the Hong Kong government to come to a mutually-acceptable solution.
