Jean Pierre Mustier, the chief executive of Italian bank UniCredit, has reportedly emerged as one of the main outside candidates to take on the job of HSBC chief executive.

Mustier, who has led UniCredit since 2016, has been talking to HSBC’s board about the role, but the larger bank’s directors remain undecided, according to a report by Bloomberg citing people familiar with the matter.
