Jefferies executives said that employees should no longer hold an "eat what you kill mentality" as the Wall Street bank moves from being considered a scrappy outsider to taking on bulge bracket investment banks.

In a letter to employees, Jefferies chief executive Rich Handler and president Brian Friedman, outlined a series of priorities for the business, which were not just based around attracting talent, building its brand and financial targets.
