Wall Street bank Jefferies has kicked off 2017 by promoting 26 staff to the rank of managing director  - almost half the number of a year ago, according to memos seen by FN.

Staff were told on January 4, with six investment bankers (12 last year) and six equities traders (seven last year) among those to get the nod.
