Jefferies staff numbers slip by 150 people after hiring spree as deal fees surge 59%

Employee numbers at Jefferies edged down by around 150 people during the second quarter after a hiring spree at the US investment bank, which posted a sharp rise in deal fees during the period.

The investment bank had 5,635 employees for the quarter ended 31 May, according to newly released accounts, down by 155 people on the prior quarter, but still up by 300 staff since the same point last year.
