Morgan Stanley has hired Jeremy Heywood, principal private secretary to Tony Blair, the UK prime minister, to beef up its UK mergers and acquisitions advisory coverage.

Heywood currently has overall management responsibility policy directorate at No 10 Downing Street, and for the operation of the prime minister's office. He has also been the prime minister's G8 representative since 1999.
