Democrat and former Vice President Joe Biden has been sworn in as the 46th President of the United States, in a muted inauguration ceremony that marked a multitude of milestones.

Biden became president alongside Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the first African American vice president, the first Asian American vice president and the first female vice president.
