Joseph Mecane was hired to join the equities division of Barclays, according to people familiar with the matter.

Mecane was previously an executive vice president at NYSE Group, a unit of Atlanta-based Intercontinental Exchange. He oversaw the NYSE's equities markets before being laid off as part of ICE's staffing reduction in the spring.
