KPMG audit shines light on Wirecard losses — report

The German payments business is at the centre of an accounting scandal that has rocked the financial services sector

The core parts of German payments firm Wirecard have been loss-making for years.

Between 2016 and 2018, Wirecard’s main auditor EY signed off on financial reports which showed the company had doubled annual earnings before interest and taxes to €439m in the period, but the confidential appendix of a special audit carried out by KPMG suggests those profits did not exist, according to a Financial Times report.
