The €1.28bn ($1.5bn) rights issue from Lafarge, the French building materials group, could spark offers from other companies in the sector, according to analysts.

BNP Paribas and JP Morgan are underwriting the issue. The French bank led a €1.2bn rights issue for Lafarge back in January 2001 but was then alongside Dresdner Kleinwort Wasserstein (DrKW).
