UK hedge fund manager Lansdowne Partners has warned a vote by the UK to quit Europe would put the European banking system under pressure.

In a first-quarter report to investors, Lansdowne said: "While we think the direct long-term impact of this would probably be less than typically assumed, the strain it would place on the eurozone banking system seems to us something that would be hard to avoid having systematic consequences."
