A hedge fund that sought to profit from plunging stock prices during the financial crisis is preparing to bet on economic recoveries in two of the countries worst affected by the crash.

Lansdowne Partners, one of Europe’s largest hedge funds with around $19bn under management, is planning to launch a long-biased fund before the end of the year that will give investors exposure to the improving fortunes in Ireland and Iceland.
