LCH lays out asset protection plans

Buyside concerns on collateral protection remain, despite clearing house progress on outlining plans to safeguard assets

LCH.Clearnet has unveiled plans to protect buyside assets under new swaps rules, reigniting criticism among market participants over a lack of harmonisation on how clearing houses will safeguard collateral.

The clearing house's account structures brochure, which was handed to clients last week, is a response to new rules contained in the European Market Infrastructure Regulation ̶ Europe's answer to the G20 2009 commitments to reduce systemic risk in the swaps market.
