Lehman Brothers has hired a partner from Thomas Weisel Partners, the US technology investment bank, as global head of mergers and acquisitions (M&A).

Mark Shafir will take over the role from Steven Wolitzer, who will become a senior adviser to the firm. Wolitzer has worked in Lehman's M&A department for 25 years.
