Lehman raises $4bn in fresh capital and shares surge

Lehman Brothers, which was last week forced publicly to deny market rumours that it said were spread by short sellers seeking to profit from a decline in its share price, increased its capital raising to $4bn (€2.6bn) sending its stock up nearly 10%.

Yesterday the bank said it was offering up to $3.5bn of perpetual convertible preferred stock and priced the deal at $4bn.
