Europe's exchange traded funds industry notched up another record year for inflows, with the sector's top five providers gathering more than $87bn of new investor money as overall industry assets in the region reached almost $1.3tn.

While the likes of BlackRock's iShares, DWS's Xtrackers and Lyxor added tens of billions of dollars to their ETF hauls during the course of the year, some of their much smaller rivals fared much better in percentage terms — in some cases boosting overall assets by more than 45%.
