The leader of the Liberal Democrats Sir Ed Davey has resigned from his role as a consultant to City law firm Herbert Smith Freehills amid the political uproar about MPs’ second jobs.

A Liberal Democrat spokesperson confirmed on 16 November that Davey had resigned from his role at Herbert Smith Freehills and has also quit as a member of the advisory board of Next Energy Capital, an investment and asset manager in the solar sector.
