David Cheyne, one of the most high-profile lawyers in the European mergers and acquisitions sector, has won the four-month race to become senior partner at magic circle law firm Linklaters.
Cheyne, who has been a partner at Linklaters for 25 years, was global head of the firm's corporate department for five years before becoming senior corporate partner last year. He joined the law firm in 1972.
