Linklaters looks likely to become the second Magic Circle law firm to have a woman lead the firm as senior partner after the exit of the only male contender in the race to succeed incumbent Charlie Jacobs.

The firm’s US head Tom Shropshire, who was one of four candidates in the running, is leaving to take over as general counsel of drinks giant Diageo.
