Liontrust chief executive John Ions has been hit with a complaint after making “unacceptable” comments to a shareholder in takeover target GAM.

The activist group fighting to block Liontrust’s bid for GAM has written to the chair of the London-listed asset manager’s board, slamming an email its chief executive sent to a GAM-backer.
