Lloyd’s issues apology for its role in the slave trade

The 330 year-old market said there were aspects of its history it is “not proud of”

Lloyd's of London, the historic City insurance market, has apologised for its involvement in the slave trade in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.

Lloyd’s, which was founded in 1686, supported the trans-Atlantic slave trade by insuring its ships.
