LME faces rising heat on warehousing

US authorities are set for fresh debate on the physical commodities market, which will place renewed focus on LME warehousing

The US Senate Committee on Banking, Housing & Urban Affairs will hold a hearing today to review the ownership of physical commodity assets by banks, set to place renewed focus on London Metal Exchange warehousing, according to market participants.

The hearing, led by the Senate's subcommittee on financial institutions and consumer protection, will examine whether banks should own power plants, warehouses and oil refineries.
