The London Metal Exchange (LME) last week handed Liffe, its larger counterpart, a bitter blow when it rejected the exchange's Connect trading system.

David King, LME chief executive, confirmed that Liffe's system is not among the two platforms the metals market has shortlisted for a new after-hours electronic dealing system.
