Lobbyists win ground in battle over the Basel Accord reform

A last-minute ploy by the heads of four heavyweight banking groups to lobby the Basel-based international regulator over some of its more contentious proposed reforms appears to have had its desired effect.

The heads of the European, US, Canadian and Japanese banking associations last week sent a letter to William McDonough, chairman of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, asking for further detail on its proposed changes to the landmark 1988 Capital Accord.
