The heads of some of the UK’s biggest investment companies have undermined their own corporate governance teams by backing the financial regulator’s move to overhaul the country's listing rules, widely viewed as a move to tempt Saudi Aramco to London.

According to the Financial Conduct Authority, the corporate governance units within a number of asset managers have argued against the watchdog’s proposals to create new listing rules only to be overruled by their senior managers.
