When Brexit battered financial firms at the start of the year, UK hedge funds found a handy loophole. They turned to specialist European platforms that enabled them access the trading bloc without having to move staff or hire locally.

That's according to conversations with people familiar with the tactics, who now say they're rethinking those plans after regulators caught on.
