The London Stock Exchange is in talks to return to the World Federation of Exchanges roughly five years after unexpectedly quitting the global industry trade association.

The move marks a fresh approach for the LSE under its new chief executive David Schwimmer and could give the exchange a prominent platform through which to wield influence at a time of significant change for the world's market infrastructure providers.
