London will be placed under the highest level of coronavirus restrictions, also known as Tier 3, on 16 December in a last-ditch attempt to reduce the spread of infection before Christmas.

The capital and parts of the South-east of England will move into Tier 3 just after midnight on 16 December, health secretary Matt Hancock announced in the House of Commons on 14 December.
