The venture capital market is changing. It is becoming more crowded and complex — in the US, 1,047 VC firms invested $130.9bn in 2018, up from 866 that invested $83bn in 2015. In the UK, though the numbers are smaller, the growth is significant — 68 UK VC firms invested £1bn in 2018, more than double what was invested in 2015.

With so much money flowing into venture capital around the world, there is more opportunity than ever for strategic investments in nascent industries. One such industry is financial technology.
