LSE considers Euroclear for settlement of trades

Don Cruickshank, chairman of the London Stock Exchange, is considering using Euroclear as a settlement depository for trades executed on the exchange.

Cruickshank outlined the plans in a speech at a conference in Madrid at the end of last week. He said: &quotWe are exploring with Euroclear whether it can increase its role in settlement of trades carried out on the LSE. This is good for the prospects of competition between clearing and settlement depositories.&quot
