LSE votes to demutualise

London Stock Exchange members today voted overwhelmingly to convert Europe's largest bourse into a commercial enterprise.

A majority of the LSE's 298 B shareholders agreed to end nearly 200 years of mutuality, despite unhappiness over senior executives' share options. This paves the way for the Exchange to reregister itself as London Stock Exchange plc.
