Macquarie tipped to buy Delaware

Macquarie Funds is being tipped as the potential buyer of US manager Delaware Investments, after confirming acquisition plans in the sector.

Expansion by the Australian bank, renowned for infrastructure initiatives, was knocked back by the credit crisis. But one investment bank familiar with the situation said it was keen to fight counterbidder Aberdeen Asset Management for Delaware, which is being sold by Lincoln Financial Group as part of a refinancing exercise.
