The head of Macquarie's feted commodities trading business, who earned more than top Wall Street bank bosses and its own chief executive, is stepping down from the firm after 28 years.

Nick O'Kane, group head of Macquarie's commodities and global markets division, is set to leave the bank for an opportunity outside the bank "for a range of personal reasons", it said in a statement.
