Macquarie’s head of European research departs

Shai Hill’s departure comes amid turbulence in European banks’ research departments thanks to far-reaching EU regulation

Macquarie’s head of European equity research has left the bank, the latest in a series of restructures at the division, as the Australian bank and its rivals grapple with EU regulations forcing investors to pay directly for research.

Shai Hill, who led a team of more than 40 analysts within Macquarie’s European research department, departed the bank earlier this month, according to sources with knowledge of the move.
